Employee photo contest draws thousands of entries from locations worldwide.
A child discovering the wonders of a telescope. The pitching deck of a commercial fishing vessel. A misty Japanese garden. Twilight settling over a Belgian canal. These are just a few of the captivating photos that emerged as winners in a recent Intel photography contest.
To showcase talents they have outside of work, Intel held a photo contest for its employees around the world. More than 7,500 photos were entered, and those that impressed the judges most will be displayed at the Intel facility from where the winners hail. Out of the best arose the global winner, “Bruges at Dusk,” a photo taken in Belgium by an American.
Here are the worldwide winner and a sampling of photos that placed regionally:

Jim Merrill, South Carolina, USA
System validation engineer, Intel Architecture Group
Global winner: “Bruges at Dusk”: “We were visiting relatives in Bruges, Belgium and my wife’s cousin was our ‘tour guide.’ We came upon this scene as we crossed over one of the city’s canals just after sunset.”

Ping-Le Shen, Oregon, USA
Customer capability system engineer, Intel IT
“Morning Mist”: “This bridge is at the Portland Japanese Garden in Oregon. What caught my eye was the morning mist and light, which gave a mysterious atmospheric feel to the bridge and delicate shades of color to the foliage.”

Hannes Steyn, South Africa
Business development manager, High Performance Computing Group
“Solitude”: Taken in the Namid Desert in Namibia.

Thanh Son Tran, Vietnam
Manufacturing execution system site integrator, Technology and Manufacturing Group
“Country Side Road”: “This photo was captured during my trip to the south of Vietnam.”
